[1] Design, Setting, and Participants This is a substudy of the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT MIND), a multicenter randomized clinical trial that compared the efficacy of 2 different blood pressure-lowering strategies. [2] Because this may be due to limited power, the results of SPRINT MIND were put in the context of major randomised and controlled hypertension trials (RCT) in which incident dementia had been adjudicated. [3] SPRINT MIND recently reported that intensive blood pressure reduction resulted in lower rates of mild cognitive impairment and WMH progression, suggesting that medical interventions could have a measurable impact on WMH.
