What is/are Level Enhancement?

Ground Level Enhancement

By using CRaTER data, we identify the lunar CR enhancements, which are similar to the terrestrial ground level enhancements (GLEs). ^[1] High-energy SEPs can sometimes be energetic enough to penetrate all the way down to the surface of the Earth and thus be recorded on the ground as ground level enhancements (GLEs). ^[2] In particular, study focusing on Forbush Decreases and Ground Level Enhancement occurred in September 2017 is proposed. ^[3] Being able to accurately quantify radiation levels within the atmosphere during solar events is of significance to the aviation industry, as described in the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Space Weather manual, particularly during a large Ground Level Enhancement (GLE) where the ionising dose to passengers and crew can exceed the recommended general public annual dose limits, set by the International Commission for Radiological Protection (ICRP) Barlett, Beck, Bilski, Bottollier‐Depois, and Lindborg (2004), in one flight. ^[4] Variations in the rigidity spectrum and anisotropy of cosmic rays (CRs) during the ground level enhancement (GLE) of CR intensity on October 28, 2003, are studied on the basis of ground and satellite observations by the worldwide network of CR stations using the spectrographic global survey approach developed at the Institute of Solar and Terrestrial Physics, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences. ^[5] A special class of events, called ground level enhancements, registered by ground based detectors, can dramatically change the radiation environment in the Earth’s atmosphere. ^[6] It is found that the SGRE CMEs are similar to those associated with ground level enhancement events. ^[7] 2 of Solar Cycle 24 on September 10, 2017, which generated Ground Level Enhancement (GLE) of cosmic rays. ^[8] This effect may be important for an analysis of ground level enhancements, leading to a potential underestimate of fluxes of solar energetic particles as based on NM data. ^[9] This class of SEPs is therefore referred as Ground Level Enhancements (GLEs). ^[10] The energy spectrum of solar cosmic rays during Ground Level Enhancement in September 10, 2017 is estimated as J=3027E –1. ^[11] Those events are known as ground level enhancements (GLEs) and can significantly enhance the radiation exposure at flight altitudes over the polar regions. ^[12]
