This was our last year as early career researchers, but the prospect of promotion was replaced with managing unpredicted short-term job insecurity. [1] Sartorius; b) implementation of the ICD-11, with the dissemination of training materials, bearing in mind local contexts; c) policy, legislation and pro tection of human rights, in order to develop a WPA policy position paper and a campaign on protecting human rights of patients with mental disorders worldwide; d) adolescent mental health, focusing on the development and dissemination of innovative prevention and intervention programmes in youth; e) community men tal health in lowand middle-income countries; f) COVID-19 and mental health response; g) development of high-quality WPA Global Seminars, which will be made available to the WPA Member Societies and posted on the WPA website; and h) development and/or update of WPA Position Statements, with the active involvement of trainees and early career researchers. [2] It is our great pleasure to introduce the Proceedings of the 1st Conference on Science, Technology, and Engineering for Early Career Researchers and Postgraduate Students (STEPS-2020) that has been held at Tikrit University, Iraq, and scientifically sponsored by Academic STEPS Ltd, UK. Key Points Question How do midcareer medical school faculty perceive the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their lives and their work? Findings In this qualitative study of 39 midcareer research faculty, dominant themes included finding increased meaningfulness of work; a sense of professionalism and moral responsibility; enhanced relationships with colleagues; reassertion of career choice; disrupted research; impact on clinical work; attention to health disparities, social justice, and advocacy; increased family responsibilities; psychological stress; and focus on leadership. [1] Conclusions: Important lessons learned during the harmonized transformation included the following: (1) key elements of the transformation need to be balanced as an ensemble, (2) cultural and organizational shifts take concerted effort and time, (3) embrace iteration: allow “bumps in the road” to propel the work forward, (4) transformation is financially feasible, (5) career research faculty can mutually benefit from clinical faculty engaging in scholarship, and (6) honor skepticism or disinterest and let people cultivate enthusiasm for research and scholarship rather than being forced.
