Introduction to Taihu Lake

Taihu Lake is the third largest freshwater lake in China.

The investigations of BC composition and distribution, POC, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and stable carbon and nitrogen isotopes were conducted in a eutrophic urban lake, Taihu Lake, which is the third largest freshwater lake in China.

Poyang Lake, Dongting Lake, and Taihu Lake are the largest freshwater lakes in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, China.

Taihu Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in China, serving as an important source of drinking water; >60% of source water to this lake is provided by the Tiaoxi River.

Here, we conducted a one-year microcosm experiment to determine the long-term effects of decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209), at low (2 mg kg-1 dry weight) and high (20 mg kg-1 dry weight) contamination levels, on six-type denitrifying bacteria and their activities in sediments collected from Taihu Lake, a typical eutrophic lake in China.

In this study, we carried out a 60-day microcosm experiment to understand the effects of 2 and 20 mg kg-1 dry weight decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) on the activity, abundance, diversity, and community composition of PMB in the sediment of Taihu Lake, a typical eutrophic lake in China.

The present study sought to determine the systematic pollution status of the heavy metals (HMs) found in the sediment around Taihu Lake, China.

As for the potential pollution source analysis, the area with high WCWT value distribution matched the WPSCF result, indicating that the potential sources of O3 pollution were mainly distributed in Changzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou, Huzhou, and other cities around Taihu Lake.

Taking Taihu Lake of China as the case, this study adopted the measured data of Chl-a in Taihu Lake in 2017 and the data corresponding to the same time from Landsat8.

Taking Taihu Lake Basin (Jiangsu section) as an example, this paper first calculates the ecosystem service value (ESV) of the region from 2005 to 2018, and makes a spatial-temporal analysis; through the construction of land use intensity index system and coupling coordination degree model, the relationship between ESV and land use intensity is explored, and the reasons for its change are explored; finally, this paper constructs a compensation standard accounting model based on GDP, basin area and population, and applies it to the accounting of compensation standard and the identification of compensation subject and object.

For the treatment of lake water with algae, the coagulation–ultrafiltration–ozone–biologically activated carbon (CUF–O3–BAC) integrated process was first used to treat East Taihu Lake water in China, aiming at evaluating the removal efficiencies of algae, permanganate index (CODMn), UV254, NH3-N and disinfection by-products (DBPs) precursors.

The majority of the lake was dominated by short-chain n-alkanes, except for East Taihu Lake (dominated by medium-chain n-alkanes) and areas with riverine input (dominated by long-chain n-alkanes).

In this study, seasonal water samples from typical urban estuaries and gate-controlled rivers in northern Taihu Lake were analyzed using statistical analysis and stable isotope analysis in R (SIAR).

Hence, sediment and water samples were collected from dredged and undredged regions around the gate-controlled estuary of northern Taihu Lake for laboratory experiments, in which they were subjected to different temperatures, depths, and disturbance levels.

In order to verify the nitrogen pollution status of shallow groundwater in typical city of Taihu Lake Basin, urban planning area of Suzhou city was selected as the study area, and 14 sampling sites representing different land use types were selected to carry out water quality analysis.

Heavy metal concentrations in Taihu Lake sediment from studies performed between 2000 and 2018 were analyzed and Monte Carlo uncertainty analysis of heavy metal geo-accumulation, potential ecological risk and toxicity data for Taihu Lake sediment was performed to allow heavy metal pollution of Taihu Lake sediment to be described clearly, objectively, and comprehensively.

Taking COD and ammonia nitrogen as output targets, the sensitivities of Taihu Lake water quality boundaries were analyzed using a local sensitivity analysis.

By combining the “horizontal” PLE coupling coordination analysis with the “vertical” correlation analysis of the elements at each layer, the comprehensive evaluation and quantitative analysis of six traditional villages of different types and grades in the Taihu Lake area are carried out to quantitatively reflect the interactive relationship and integration mechanism of PLE in traditional villages.

However, due to the very insufficient site data obtained for the lacustrine clay in the Taihu lake area, a series of self-boring pressuremeter (SBPM) field tests was therefore carried out.
