What is/are Arxula Adeninivorans?

Arxula Adeninivorans - Yeasts, like Arxula adeninivorans, Hansenula polymorpha, Pichia pastoris, Debaryomyces hansenii, Debaryomyces polymorphus, Schwanniomyces occidentalis, Yarrowia lipolytica, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae are frequently used producers of recombinant enzymes, particularly when posttranslational modifications are mandatory to obtain full functionality. ^[1] cerevisiae, established yeast expression systems including the methylotrophic yeasts Pichia pastoris and Hansenula polymorpha, the dimorphic yeasts Arxula adeninivorans and Yarrowia lipolytica, the lactose-utilizing yeast Kluyveromyces lactis, the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, and upcoming yeast platforms, namely, Kluyveromyces marxianus, Candida utilis, and Zygosaccharomyces bailii, are compiled with special emphasis on their genetic toolbox for recombinant protein production. ^[2] TVLCC5 gene encoding Trametes versicolor laccase 5 was overexpressed in Arxula adeninivorans using the strong constitutive TEF1 promoter. ^[3] The UOX gene was cloned from Arxula adeninivorans NBRC 10858, and its N-terminally his6-tagged form (rUOX) was overexpressed in Escherichia coli. ^[4] In this study, surface water samples from different sampling sites and seasons in the Baltic Sea were analyzed for estrogenic activity with the Arxula adeninivorans yeast estrogen screen. ^[5] The common yeast expression hosts used for recombinant proteins’ expression include Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Pichia pastoris, Hansenula polymorpha, Yarrowia lipolytica, Arxula adeninivorans, Kluyveromyces lactis, and Schizosaccharomyces pombe. ^[6] cerevisiae, established yeast expression systems including the methylotrophic yeasts Pichia pastoris and Hansenula polymorpha, the dimorphic yeasts Arxula adeninivorans and Yarrowia lipolytica, the lactose-utilizing yeast Kluyveromyces lactis, the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, and upcoming yeast platforms, namely, Kluyveromyces marxianus, Candida utilis, and Zygosaccharomyces bailii, are compiled with special emphasis on their genetic toolbox for recombinant protein production. ^[7] Therefore, sensitive effect based methods based on modified yeast cells (Arxula adeninivorans), which carry the human estrogen or androgen receptor, were used as a screening tool for corresponding activities. ^[8]
