Submitted a paper early October and received a fast response from the EIC within a week that the manuscript should highlight contributions and resubmit. We did the requested changes and re-submitted within a week, informing the EIC. After a week passed, the journal manager sent a rejection email saying that this is a final decision and that the manuscript cannot be accepted. However the EIC, after another week sent us an email saying that the changes are fine and the manuscript was transferred to an Associate Editor to start the review process. A month after, we received a rejection from the Associate Editor saying that the reviewers suggested rejection. We had two reviews. The first saying that structure and results need to be improved with no further comments. The second had very valid comments with a writing meaning to minor revisions. We did not spend more time with this submission..

Don‘t submit a paper to Applied Energy (AE) journal because there are hundreds of other journals. When you submit to AE, this is what you may get as a reviewer’s opinion: “First of all, I was very surprised to receive a review invitation for such a publication from a high quality and impact factor journal like Applied energy. Although there are thousands of articles on alpha-type stirling engines, the author cited only two articles and three web pages in the references. Even this shows the inadequacy of the article. In addition, no scientific and academic information was found in the article. I am of the opinion that this article (which cannot be called an article because it has nothing scientific) should be rejected.“ The rejection of my paper was based on the above report. This is called a tough decision making process. It makes no sense to discuss anything with this kind of real scientists. The question is how long will this stay in this forum. Sincerely, Josef

This magazine is not particularly demanding on manuscripts, and emphasizes application. The editor-in-chief is Chinese, which is more beneficial to Chinese people. The review speed is fairly fast!

Slow, too slow. After three and a half months, I found that the review status has not changed or is under review, but the status time has changed. I don't know when it will be reviewed.

About

Applied Energy provides a forum for information on innovation, research, development and demonstration in the areas of energy conversion and conservation, the optimal use of energy resources, analysis and optimization of energy processes, mitigation of environmental pollutants, and sustainable energy systems. The journal publishes original papers, review articles, technical notes, and letters to the editor. Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts which bridge the gaps between research, development and implementation. The breadth of coverage ranges from innovative technologies and systems of both fossil and renewable energy to the economic industrial and domestic use of energy with no or minor impact on the environment. Applied Energy is also concerned with the attendant problems of modeling and forecasting, conservation strategies, and the environmental, social and economic impacts of energy policies and usage, including climate change mitigation and other environmental pollution reduction.
