¿Qué es el factor de impacto?
El factor de impacto (FI) se utiliza con frecuencia como indicador de la importancia de una revista en su campo. Fue presentado por primera vez por Eugene Garfield, el fundador del Instituto de Información Científica. Aunque las instituciones y los médicos utilizan ampliamente la FI, las personas tienen una idea errónea generalizada sobre el método para calcular la FI de la revista, su importancia y cómo se puede utilizar. El factor de impacto se usa comúnmente para evaluar la importancia relativa de una revista dentro de su campo y para medir la frecuencia con la que el “artículo promedio” en una revista ha sido citado en un período de tiempo particular.
