Materials Today is the flagship journal of the Materials Today family and is dedicated to covering the most innovative, cutting edge and influential work of broad interest to the materials science community. Having established the journal as one of the most highly respected sources of news and reviews in materials science over the last two decades, Materials Today has expanded its scope to cover ground breaking original research in materials science, and aims to become a leading forum in the field. The editors welcome comprehensive articles and short communications reporting breakthrough discoveries and major technical achievements as well as review articles from established leaders in engaging and rapidly developing fields within materials science and related disciplines. Materials Today offers authors rigorous peer review, rapid publication, and maximum visibility. The journal expects to accept only the most significant submitted manuscripts, but will provide very rapid evaluation to prevent publication delays. Materials Today is a monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal, website, and journal family. The parent journal was established in 1998 and covers all aspects of materials science. It is published by Elsevier and the editors-in-chief are Jun Lou (Rice University) and Gleb Yushin (Georgia Institute of Technology). The journal principally publishes invited review articles, but other formats are also included, such as primary research articles, news items, commentaries, and opinion pieces on subjects of interest to the field. Der Impact-Faktor (IF) wird häufig als Indikator für die Bedeutung eines Journals für sein Fachgebiet verwendet. Es wurde erstmals von Eugene Garfield, dem Gründer des Instituts für wissenschaftliche Information, vorgestellt. Obwohl IF von Institutionen und Klinikern weit verbreitet ist, haben die Menschen ein weit verbreitetes Missverständnis hinsichtlich der Methode zur Berechnung des IF der Zeitschrift, seiner Bedeutung und seiner Verwendung. Das IF einer Zeitschrift hängt nicht mit Faktoren wie der Qualität des Peer-Review-Prozesses und der Qualität des Inhalts der Zeitschrift zusammen, sondern ist ein Maß, das die durchschnittliche Anzahl von Zitaten zu Artikeln widerspiegelt, die in Zeitschriften, Büchern, Abschlussarbeiten, Projektberichten und Zeitungen veröffentlicht wurden , Konferenz- / Seminarberichte, im Internet veröffentlichte Dokumente, Notizen und andere genehmigte Dokumente.
