Il fattore di impatto (IF) è spesso utilizzato come indicatore dell'importanza di una rivista nel suo campo. È stato introdotto per la prima volta da Eugene Garfield, il fondatore dell'Istituto per l'informazione scientifica. Sebbene l'IF sia ampiamente utilizzato da istituzioni e medici, le persone hanno un'idea sbagliata diffusa riguardo al metodo di calcolo dell'IF della rivista, al suo significato e al modo in cui può essere utilizzato. L'IF di una rivista non è associata a fattori come la qualità del processo di revisione tra pari e la qualità del contenuto della rivista, ma è una misura che riflette il numero medio di citazioni di articoli pubblicati su riviste, libri, tesi, rapporti di progetto, giornali , atti di conferenze / seminari, documenti pubblicati su Internet, note e qualsiasi altro documento approvato.

What is Impact Factor?
The impact factor (IF) is frequently used as an indicator of the importance of a journal to its field. It was first introduced by Eugene Garfield, the founder of the Institute for Scientific Information. Although IF is widely used by institutions and clinicians, people have widespread misconception regarding the method for calculating the journal IF, its significance and how it can be utilized. The IF of a journal is not associated to the factors like quality of peer review process and quality of content of the journal, but is a measure that reflects the average number of citations to articles published in journals, books, thesis, project reports, newspapers, conference/seminar proceedings, documents published in internet, notes, and any other approved documents.
Impact factor is commonly used to evaluate the relative importance of a journal within its field and to measure the frequency with which the “average article” in a journal has been cited in a particular time period. Journal which publishes more review articles will get highest IFs. Journals with higher IFs believed to be more important than those with lower ones. According to Eugene Garfield “impact simply reflects the ability of the journals and editors to attract the best paper available.” Journal which publishes more review articles will get maximum IFs. The Journal Impact of an academic journal is a scientometric Metric that reflects the yearly average number of citations that recent articles published in a given journal received. It is frequently used as a Metric for the relative importance of a journal within its field; journals with higher Journal Impact are often deemed to be more important than those with lower ones. The Acta Polytechnica Hungarica Fattore di Impatto measures the average number of citations received in a particular year (2020) by papers published in the Acta Polytechnica Hungarica during the two preceding years (2018-2019). Note that 2020 Journal Impact are reported in 2021; they cannot be calculated until all of the 2020 publications have been processed by the indexing agency. In addition to the 2-year Journal Impact, the 3-year Journal Impact can provide further insights and factors into the impact of Acta Polytechnica Hungarica.
